The T-38 TALON
Whiteman Air Force Base is in Johnson County, Missouri near the town of Knob Noster.
The base was activated as Sedalia Air Force Base in 1942 and in 1951 was modified for use by heavy bombers.
In 1955 it was renamed to Whiteman AFB in honor of 2d Lt. George A. Whiteman, one of the first American airmen killed in World War II, during the attack on Pearl Harbor.
The first B-2 stealth bomber landed at Whiteman on December 17, 1993. All 21 B-2's are now stationed at Whiteman under the command of the 509th Bomb Wing.
Whiteman is also home to the 442nd Fighter Wing, and the Missouri Army National Guard 1-135th Aviation Battalion. The Navy Reserve Mobile Inshore Undersea Warfare Unit 114 also operates from Whiteman.

Whiteman is the home of the 509th Bomb Wing, which operates and maintains the Air Force's premier weapon system, the B-2 bomber. Whiteman is also the home of the 442nd Fighter Wing, an Air Force Reserve Command unit that flies the A-10 Thunderbolt II, as well as the Missouri Army National Guard 1-135th Aviation Battalion, which flies the AH-64 Apache helicopter. The Navy Reserve Mobile Inshore Undersea Warfare Unit 114 also operates from Whiteman. Their mission is to provide surveillance, intelligence and force protection measures for naval assets.
