Deception Bay

Deception Bay is the name of a small Bay in the west of Moreton bay, south of Pummicestone Passage and north of the Redcliffe Peninsula.

Deception Bay is a suburb of Caboolture and is located approximately 30km north of Brisbane in the south-eastern corner of the Bay of the same name which separates the Redcliffe Peninsula and Bribie Island.

Although Deception Bay is a part of Caboolture Shire, the community is geographically and culturally a part of Redcliffe City, and some local residents feel that the suburb should be administered by Redcliffe City Council^{[citation needed]}.

Deception Bay was named by Lt John Oxley in 1823 who thought the Bay was a river and because of his mistake and the shallowness, named it Deception bay.

The Area was once large parcels of land supporting dairying and farming and while some large blocks remain today, most have been subdivided in line with providing housing for a growing community.
