Funabashi HisoryThe city of Funabashi is situated in the northwestern part of Chiba Prefecture. Not only is it in close proximity to the center of Tokyo and to NaritaInternationalAirport, it also boasts an extensive transportation system as well as the Keiyo Harbor. It is indeed ideally situated.
the city originally attracted those who went to make their pilgremages to Mount Narita and stayed their alongSakuraKaido (Drive). On April 1st 1937, Funabashi-cho, Katsushika-cho, Yasakae-mura, Hoden-mura and Tsukada-mura merged to create the city of Funabashi.
It developed into a highly modern city due to the fact that it was close to Tokyo. In 1937, the population was a mere 43,000 but at present has grown to over 540,000. It is the fifth largest city in the Metropolitan area and is ranked 19th in size nationwide (excluding Tokyo). It has grown to become a central city for the Keiyo Region.
