Kaaawa Description |
|

Kaʻaʻawa is a small community and census-designated place (CDP) located in the windward district of Koʻolauloa, City & County of Honolulu on the Island of Oʻahu, Hawaiʻi. As of the 2000 Census, the total population for Kaʻaʻawa was 1,324. In Hawaiian, kaʻaʻawa means "the wrasse (fish)".
The word always delights visitors who stumble on pronouncing three as in a row. In Hawaiian spelling (Kaʻaʻawa), it is seen that each a is pronounced separately and distinctly, set apart by the two ʻokina
According to the United States Census Bureau, the town had a total area of 1.1 square miles (2.8 km²). 0.6 square miles (1.5 km²) of it was land and 0.5 square miles (1.3 km²) of it was water. The total area was 46.36% water. Kaʻaʻawa Valley is part of Kualoa Ranch and used for various tourist activities as well as filming. Major films incorporating significant views of the valley include George of the Jungle and Jurassic Park.
This 4,000-acre ranch also offers helicopter rides, swimming, snorkeling, kayaking, mountain biking and more. Opposite the Kualoa Ranch is Kualoa Regional Park. This long, narrow beach is bordered by grassy areas and with the grand Ko’olau Mountains in the background, makes a great place along your North Shore tour to sit back and enjoy a picnic lunch.
