Message from the Mayor of Marrero
The general area of Marrero and JeffersonParish wasestablished in 1825, and was New Orleans first suburb. The Parish was named in honour of President Thomas Jefferson. The Marrero area stayed a small community for over 100 years due to the majority of it being swampland. In the 1950 to 1070 years construction began rapidly with reconstruction of the marsh areas, and many people from Orleans Parish moved here rapidly increasing population.Marrero is known for Louisiana Delta Fishing, with hundreds of square miles of bayous, ponds, canals,flooded marsh land and maoe. It's a fishermans dream. If you are a bass fisherman then this is the place to be. Marrero is known for some awefully large bass thruout the swamp areas.

Marrero is a census-designated place, and unincorporated community in Jefferson Parrish, Louisiana. Marrero is located on the West Bank of the Mississippi River within the Greater New Orleans Metro Area. The city has a population of nearly 38,000 residents with a land mass area of only 8 square miles. This gives them a high population density. Females over the age of eighteen out number males by 20%. Marrero is a lower income city, with 21% of the population under the poverty level. The city has four highschools with two being public and two Catholic. One for males and one for females. The city of Marrero was affected by Hurricane Katrina in 2005, but has rebounded faster than most areas, as the west side of the Mississippi river has more wind damage, but less flooding. The leaders of Marrero and Jefferson Parish realize this area is a vital area of the New Orleans Metro Area, and have set a rapid rebuild pace. They are 98% of the way back to making Marrero a better city. A U.S.report lists Marrero as one of the areas with top job growth in the U.S.
