CNSNews.com) - A conservative advocacy group is urging its supporters to cancel their policies with Progressive Insurance, after Peter Lewis of Miami, the company's chairman, reportedly gave $8.5 million to the American Civil Liberties Union. The multi-million dollar donation will help the ACLU advance its liberal agenda, including its "war on Christmas," the American Family Association warned. In an email message, AFA Founder and Chairman Don Wildmon urged his supporters to "sign a letter to Chairman Lewis, letting him know" that his donation to the ACLU is prompting conservatives to cancel their insurance policies. The AFA recently announced that it was ending its boycott of Target stores, after the retailer promised to use the word "Christmas" in its advertising and in-store promotions

PROGRESSIVE CEO ARRESTED FOR DRUGS!
In 2000, Lewis of Miami made news of an unusual nature when he was arrested after customs agents found 1.7 ounces of marijuana and two ounces of hashish in his luggage at an airport in New Zealand. The charges were dropped when the billionaire agreed to make a donation to a drug rehabilitation center.
A year later, Lewis became the largest single donor to the American Civil Liberties Union. But, as with many of his charitable donations, there were some minor “strings attached” to his $7 million gift: namely, that $5 million be earmarked for the ACLU’s drug-policy litigation project, which challenges current laws dealing with drug testing in schools and the medicinal use of marijuana.

Progressive fined for charging incorrect auto premiums

OLYMPIA, Wash. — Insurance Commissioner Mike Kreidler has fined an Ohio auto insurer a total of more than $150,000 after it unlawfully calculated and charged incorrect premiums to more than 62,700 Washington policyholders.
During a seven month period ending April, 2006, Progressive Classic Insurance Co. and Progressive Northwestern Insurance Co. used unapproved rates to calculate premiums for uninsured motorist bodily injury and property coverages.
The use of the unapproved rates resulted in the company both overcharging and undercharging consumers a total of more than $720,000. The company refunded $341,645 to consumers who overpaid for their coverage.
The violations marked the second time the insurer was cited for such infractions. In 2005, the company was ordered to pay a $10,000 fine, with half of the fine suspended on condition of no further violations during a two-year period.
A $100,000 fine was imposed for the new violations, with half of the penalty suspended on condition that the company not have any more violations for two years. The company also was ordered to pay the $5,000 fine that was suspended in the 2005 case.
In a related enforcement action, the Insurance Commissioner also ordered Progressive Max Insurance Co., another member of the Progressive Insurance Group, to pay a $1,000 fine for using unapproved rates to calculate premiums for 614 policies issued during a six-month period ending March, 2006. Those infractions violated terms of a suspended fine stemming from an earlier case also involving violations with unapproved rates affecting more than 760 policies. The fine in that case was $190,732 with half ($95,366) suspended on conditions of no additional violations. The company was ordered to pay the suspended fine.
total fines to the Progressive Insurance Group, including new penalties and impositions of suspended fines, amounted to $151,366.

I was rear ended on 4/10/07 and the driver had Progressive Insurance. I am still attempting to deal with this company to get my 2002 Ford Ranger Repaired. The adjuster is questioning everything and making the process very difficult. The body work has been done and now that I have turned the rental car back in, am without a vehicle.

(1) Progressive overcharged us $35 month for motorcycle insurance w/o informing us. when we brought it to their attention they changed and reimbursed us. (2) Progressive kept raising the rates on our new vehicle quotes, giving us the until you send us this information/form run around. Then they would charge our checking accounts and later

I backed a small trailer into a mailbox on private property, causing some damage. We called Progressive to ask some initial questions about filing a claim. We were told that because it was on private property and the damage was a trailer that was hooked to an insured vehicle, the deductible would be waived, a $500 maximum payout would be issued, and it would not be recorded as an "at fault" accident. Sounded like a no-brainer, so we filed the claim.
Then we get a call that it WOULD be on our record as an "at fault" accident, and the $500 deductible applied. No biggie, we just wanted to cancel the claim. Can't do that? What? Too late, I had already admitted to an at fault accident and they will not remove that from the record, even if we do not follow through with the claim. They are not able to determine the rep that gave us the mis-information. Ok, I talk to his supervisor and am told the same thing. They will not drop the claim even though I assured them that all 3 policies would be cancelled as soon as they handed me the check. So that's what happened. I got the check, and the next morning all policies were cancelled, and went with Liberty Mutual.
So now I have an "at fault" mark on my insurance and my rates are higher, but the worst part was getting the final bill and 3 weeks later, we get a call from a collections agency! Bill was printed on March 30th, received the first week of April, collections call was on April 24th. They are getting very personal over this, not happy with blemishing my insurance record, but now I am trying to deal with extremely rude collections reps and have a bad mark on my otherwise clean

What should I do? I am out of ideas?
I have had the worst experience! A drunk driver took out my parked car. She had Progressive insurance. Progressive has done a poor job of keeping in communication with me. The day I was told my car would be ready, I finally got in touch with someone only to find out they are going to total it. I didn't hear back from Progressive for 2 weeks, so I put a contract down to buy a car. The auto body shop where Progressive took my crashed car told me they were almost done fixing my car (the car that Progressive told me was totaled). I'm on hold with their main phone switchboard right now trying to find someone to help. Tricia Lempke, Steve Hover, and Steve Koets at Progressive's Madison, WI branch all failed to do their jobs adequately. I wish I knew if my car is being fixed or totaled (the accident happened 4 weeks ago).
Any advice?
