Mission is a city in Hidalgo County, texas, United States. The population was 45,408 at the 2000 census Mission, TX is the home of the ruby red grapefruit. Because of this, the city holds an annual parade down Conway Avenue, called the the Citrus Parade. The city's main street which features floats decorated with fruit and produce as well as bands, law enforcement agencies and fire departments from Mission as well as surrounding areas. . Mission, TX is the birthplace of Tom Landry, former coach of the Dallas Cowboys. Mission, TX is the hometown of former World Wrestling Entertainment ( WWE) superstar and WWE Hall of Famer Merced Solis, aka Tito Santana. Moore Air Force Base (deactivated) is located 14 miles northwest of the city. .. Mission, TX is the location of the First Lift Station of the Mission Canal Co. that once irrigated 15,000 acres (61 km²) of farmland in the Rio Grande Valley. Former US Senator and VP Nominee Lloyd Bentsen was born in Mission in 1921. Mission, TX is the birth place of Trinidad Silva ( Actor). He is featured in the 1987 film Colors where he plays Leo Lopez Presidential candidate and former Secretary of State William Jennings Bryan lived in Mission. William S. Burroughs writer of Naked Lunch, lived in Mission for a short while, before going to Mexico for cheap Morphine. He wrote about it in Junkie.. .. Legandary bands Brio and the Citrus Parade are from Mission....
