Motta Sant'Anastasia
(Catania Provincia), is 13 km from Catania, alt. 275 m, o the South slope of Etna, in the valley of the Sieli, area 35.7 sq km, pop. over 8900, post-code 95040, tel. 095. Economy: agriculture, sheep breeding, small foodstuff industries.
The town developed around the castle built by Count Roger the Norman, and for many centuries it belonged to the church of Catania, and to the feudal lords Russo, Perollo, Libori, and Moncada.
Many Americans live here because of its proximity to the nearby military base.
