The Devils Marbles

The Devils Marbles are clusters of mysterious rocks and boulders located in the scenic Australian desert near the outback town of Tennant Creek. While some are precariously balanced, others seem cut with a knife, the action of heat, differences in temperature from day to night and erosion. The local Aboriginal people believe that the boulders are the eggs of the Rainbow Serpent. The ancient Aboriginal mythology surrounding this fascinating geological marvel can be explored through a short self guided walking trail and informative signage.

The Aboriginals were the original inhabitants of the area and their culture and art have a large influence. A visit to the Nyinkka Nyunyu Cultural Center is a must. The cultural center offers an insight into the culture of The local Aboriginal people, including Aboriginal artifacts, paintings, bush tucker and dance performances.
