The legendary Matchbox toy company is celebrating 50 years of model car making. Alan Anderson recalls the days when he (and his mum) worked for the firm INSECTS, the Queen and my family all helped make Matchbox toys what they are today. A success story that turns 50 this year. Since 1952, 12,000 different Matchbox models have been produced and an amazing three billion sold - that's more than the combined efforts of real car makers Ford, General Motors (Vauxhall) and Volkswagen and enough miniature motors to circle the earth six times.
