Their high school was razed a few weeks ago. Their hospital and nursing home have been empty for months.
In homes all across town, folks still scrub and dry out basements from the icy flood water and raw sewage that overwhelmed this city last spring.
But Sunday night, in the gymnasium of Ada-Borup Elementary School, residents of this tiny prairie community gathered to dine on turkey and ham and celebrate the holiday season, a spirit and their perseverance.
"The flood was devastating, but it didn't destroy us," said Tom Melin, who shared a meal with his wife, Val, and three children. "We can and we will get through this."
