Royal Mail could be hit with a hefty fine and tough new recruitment rules after staff were caught stealing.
Sorting office worker Chandan Patel, pictured, was jailed for 15 months after a haul of 40,000 cards and letters was found at her home in Levensgarth Avenue, Fulwood.
Another employee from the same office, Paul Bunce, of Meadow Park, Wesham, near Kirkham, was due in court today for sentence after admitting two charges of stealing a total of [pounds sterling]42 from the Royal Mail.
Mail watchdog Postcomm is now finalising a report into thefts from the mail.
It could levy a large fine on Royal Mail for 'jeopardising mail integrity'.
