Drink and be merry or drink and be fat? Researchers are increasingly understanding the role that soda and juice containing added sugar (juice drinks) play in expanding America's waistline. Last year, a report published by a panel of experts (with the support of Unilever Health Institute, which owns Lipton Tea) examined the relationship between weight gain and high-calorie, sugary, nutrient-poor drinks, such as soda pop, presweetened juice drinks and teas. The panel discovered that sweetened beverages are contributing to health problems, from diabetes to cancer. What's safe to drink and how much? Here, their findings and advice.
