Ma'an (Arabic: معان) is one of the governorates of Jordan, it is located south of Amman, Jordan's capital. Its capital is the city of Ma'an. This governorate is the largest in the kingdom.

|
The city of Ma'an is the capital of the state with the same name. Although the city is a very conservative community, the state of Ma'an has within it some of the best tourist spots in the country. Petra is by far the most well known. This was the famous rock temple used as a backdrop for the Indiana Jones movie. There are also many abcient villiages and Roman forts in the region. One of the most fascinating assets of the state is its people. The nomadic people known as the Bedouin still live in their goat hair tents throughout the area and still manage to eek out a subsistance living in the arid area.
This is a very easy and safe place to travel, in fact the plethora of western style hotels provide a great way to stay, unfortunatly I found no hostels in the western sense. |
