The island of Dominica's indigenous Arawak people were expelled or exterminated by Caribs in the 14th century. The Arawaks were guided to Dominica, and other islands of the Caribbean, by the South Equatorial Current from the waters of the Orinoco River. These descendants of the early Tainos were overthrown by the Kalinago tribe of the Caribs.

Dominica was the last of the Caribbean islands to be colonized by Europeans, due chiefly to the fierce resistance of the native Caribs. France ceded possession to Great Britain in 1763, which made The island a colony in 1805. In 1980, two years after independence, Dominica\'s fortunes improved when a corrupt and tyrannical administration was replaced by that of Mary Eugenia CHARLES, the first female prime minister in the Caribbean, who remained in office for 15 years. Some 3,000 Carib Indians still living on Dominica are the only pre-Columbian population remaining in the eastern Caribbean.

Saint Luke is one of Dominica's 10 administrative parishes. It is bordered by St. George (to the north), St. Mark (to the South), and St. Patrick (to the east).

The parish is one of Dominica's smallest in area and population. 1,576 people^[1] live in its 7.77 km² (3 mi²)^[2] of area. Pointe Michel (La Pointe) is its only settlement.

Its shape resembles a wedge pointing right, with the top part cut off.
