They congratulated themselves with their first hit, Dont Cha, (featuring Busta Rhymes, originally recorded by Tori Alamaze), in 2005 by performing it in a club for their fans. It has peaked at #2 on the US Billboard Hot 100 and reached #1 on the Pop 100 and Hot dance Music/Club Play singles charts. It has also reached #1 on the Australian ARIAnet Singles Chart, and debuted at #1 on the official UK Singles Chart on September 11, 2005. In doing so, The Pussycat Dolls became only the fourth ever girl band to enter the UK charts at #1 with their debut single. (The other girl bands are B*Witched, the Spice Girls, and Girls Aloud.

The Pussycat Dolls released their debut album, PCD, on September 13, 2005. It debuted at #5 on the Billboard 200 selling about 99,000 copies, but quickly fell out of the top 10. But has managed to stay in the top 50. The album features tracks produced by Will.I.Am of the Black Eyed Peas, Timbaland, Scott Storch, Rich Harrison, Polow, and Ron Fair. Will.I.Am produced and rapped on, Beep, while Timbaland produced and rapped on, Wait A Minute.

A number of celebrities have also guest-performed with the group. The dancers perform in lingerie and old-fashioned pin-up costumes and there is no nudity or explicit sex in their performances. The group has become nationally popular and has been featured in magazines, television specials for MTV and VH1, ad campaigns, and movies. Carmen Electra has been the groups lead performer for many of these magazine articles and television appearances, and she has been featured on stage with The Pussycat Dolls most frequently of all the celebrity performers. Nicole Scherzinger (a.k.a. Nicole Kea), a former member of the American Popstars winners Eden?s Crush, has now become the groups lead singer. Other past and present members of the group include Carmit Bachar, Cyia Batten, Kasey Campbell, Kaya Jones, Ashley Roberts, Rachel Sterling, Jessica Sutta, Melody Thornton, and Kimberly Wyatt.

The Pussycat Dolls (sometimes abbreviated as PCD) are an American pop girl group and dance ensemble founded by choreographer Robin Antin. The group originated during 1995 as a burlesque troupe based in Los Angeles, California. After attracting national attention, Antin eventually negotiated a record deal with Interscope Records in 2003, and the troupe became a music group.

This new group was comprised of lead singer Nicole Scherzinger alongside Melody Thornton, Jessica Sutta, Ashley Roberts, Kimberly Wyatt and Carmit Bachar. Subsequently the group also diversified into reality television programs, a Las Vegas act, merchandising and other ventures overseen by Antin, Interscope, and their partners.
The Pussycat Dolls achieved worldwide success in 2005 with their album PCD, which debuted at number five on the U.S. Billboard 200 Chart and produced the successful singles “Don’t Cha”, “Buttons”, and “Stickwitu”; a song that earned the group a Grammy Award nomination.

Following the departure of Carmit Bachar in March 2008, the group continued as a quintet and during 2008 released their second studio album, Doll Domination, which included the successes “When I Grow Up”, “I Hate This Part” and “Jai Ho! (You Are My Destiny)”.
Throughout their rise to fame, the group has been criticized for its overtly sexual image and explicit dance routines and for the over-emphasis on lead singer Nicole Scherzinger, who sings nearly all of the group’s lead and background vocals.
