Mention Las Vegas, Nevada "Sin City" or the "Entertainment Capital of the World" and the gambling, lights and luxury resorts spring to mind. Beyond the Casinos, Las Vegas serves as the County Seat of Clark County and is home to nearly 600,000 residents. Established in 1905 and incorporated 6 years later Las Vegas has served as the home of the Paiute Indians and a railroad town before it became the travel destination it is today. Long before the Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas Nevada sign welcomed vistors, the natural springs formed an oasis of lush meadows which inspired the name Las Vegas which literally means The Meadows.



Just as the cities name and early history revolved around water, the Hoover Damn and Lake Mead are the life blood of the city today providing electricity for the millions of lights and precious water in the Nevada Desert.



On the boarder of Arizona and Nevada the Hoover Dam on the Colorado river was built between 1931 and 1935 and created Lake Mead.

After Gambling was legalized in March of 1931 mob gangsters Bugsy Siegel and Meyer Lansky began the land rush on Las Vegas Blvd. In 1989 the first of the ultra luxiourious casino hotels the Mirage opened and marked the end of the Rat Packs Las Vegas.

Las Vegas Blvd aka the strip home to the mega resorts of from The Stratosphere to the North to Mandalay Bay in the south, the pulse of Las Vegas lives here.

the World Famous Casinos call Las Vegas Blvd home. The MGM Grand, Luxor, Pais, Venetian, Mandalay Bay, Excalibur, New York New York, Caesars Palace and the Belagio share the strip with the old guard of the?Circus Circus, the Flamingo, Casino Royale and the Sahara. Many of the great rat pack era casinos like the Stardust, Frontier and Westard Ho have been laid to rest to make way for the new Giants.
